Update: New posts coming soon
Hello, dear readers of Sunyshore!
I’ve been on hiatus for the last 3 months as I’ve been getting adjusted to my sweet new job designing algorithms for personalized donation recommendations at a fintech company. I’ve started to find my rhythm at work, so I’d like to make more time for blogging.
Some ideas for blog posts that I have in mind:
A post about limitations of ML-based machine translation. While traveling in Europe, I noticed that Google Translate struggled with translating certain concepts between European languages like Spanish and East Asian languages like Chinese and Japanese, so I’ve been working on a post about what I’ve learned.
A critical review of Stubborn Attachments. We read this book several months ago for EA NYC’s book club. Written by Tyler Cowen, it argues that people with a wide range of moral values should give high priority to increasing the rate of sustainable economic growth and keeping civilization safe from x-risks.
A post about writing systems in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Going forward, I’ll probably write more posts about my other interests, such as linguistics and video games, and fewer specifically about effective altruism and public policy, in order to improve my work–EA–life balance — an extension of work–life balance which recognizes that engaging with EA and political topics can feel like work. But I’m interested in what you’re interested in reading about, so leave a comment below if you have feedback or suggestions for post topics.
Besides that, I’ve recently been spending a lot of time playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I know I’m late to the party, but it’s still a lot of fun even though the first wave of media coverage and popularity has passed.
See you soon!
